The Tessitura community includes over 800 cultural institutions in ten countries. Our staff provide 24/7 support and offer guidance to grow revenue and build lifelong engagement.

Job Summary:
At Tessitura, the Innovation Group’s mission is to build Tessitura's product and technology innovation pipeline from identification of need, through ideation, product development, engineering, infrastructure, quality assurance, deployment, and feedback/iteration cycles, ensuring that we deliver continually innovated technology to our members, ecosystem partners, and team members. Within Innovation, the Cloud Services team is responsible for AWS infrastructure, application platforms, operations, and automation that enable our members to deliver exceptional experiences to millions of arts and culture patrons worldwide.

The Manager of Core Cloud Services leads a team of cloud engineers responsible for the foundational infrastructure services that underpin the entire Tessitura platform. This includes AWS infrastructure, compute and storage architecture, networking, backup and disaster recovery, and security compliance. The manager is a key member of the Cloud Services leadership team and contributes to both technical strategy and organizational direction.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who enjoys being close to the technology while developing their team and contributing strategic ideas. You'll be stepping into an exciting phase of infrastructure modernization as we refactor our platform to a more cloud-native form. Your team will lead technical delivery on these critical initiatives within our structured Project Management Office (PMO) environment.

The Manager of Core Cloud Services operates with high autonomy and high transparency, running the team day-to-day while keeping leadership informed. This role requires someone who can actively manage the work of their team around shifting priorities, work across department lines, and communicate effectively with stakeholders. Success in this role requires seeing your team not as individual contributors with fixed capabilities, but as a dynamic system where thoughtful work assignments, skill development, and collaboration create outcomes greater than the sum of individual efforts.

Specific Responsibilities:

Team Leadership & Development
  • Leads and develops a team of cloud engineers, balancing workload distribution to ensure both timely delivery and individual growth opportunities.
  • Identifies opportunities for engineers to collaborate across skill domains, creating force-multiplier effects through knowledge sharing and cross-training.
  • Develops T-shaped engineers—building both depth and breadth—through strategic work assignments that serve both project needs and individual growth trajectories.
  • Stays current with cloud infrastructure trends and emerging technologies, fostering a culture of curiosity and experimentation where team members are encouraged to explore new approaches, share learnings, and continuously expand their technical breadth.

Work Management & Delivery
  • Owns team deliverables from planning through completion—including large-scale migration and modernization projects—proactively breaking down work, assigning resources strategically, and driving decisions to ensure commitments are met.
  • Balances project demands with ongoing operational responsibilities, escalating strategic decisions and cost implications after completing appropriate groundwork and analysis.
  • Maintains work visibility through regular, proactive communication, status updates, and documentation.

Infrastructure & Technical Ownership
  • Oversees the design, deployment, and management of AWS infrastructure including compute, storage, networking, and security controls.
  • Champions the use and adoption of Infrastructure as Code and leads the team in an automation-first mindset.
  • Owns the development of monitoring plans, operational strategies, and infrastructure roadmaps aligned with business needs and platform evolution.
  • Ensures robust backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity capabilities across the platform.
  • Serves as the primary liaison with the InfoSec team, proactively engaging on architectural decisions to ensure infrastructure changes meet security and compliance requirements, and representing Cloud Services in security planning discussions.

Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration
  • Participates as a peer leader on the Cloud Platform leadership team alongside managers of Cloud Applications, Cloud Operations, and Cloud Automation, contributing architectural ideas, technical solutions, and strategic direction on platform-wide initiatives.
  • Works within the structured Strategic Delivery framework as a functional manager, engaging actively with PMs and BAs during planning and execution to provide technical input while owning the team's delivery commitments.
  • Represents the Cloud Services team in cross-departmental meetings and strategic discussions.
  • Engages and escalates to vendors for service restoration and strategic partnerships.
Operational Excellence
  • Follows defined processes for incident and change management.
  • Participates in a rotating incident commander on-call schedule approximately three weekdays per month plus five weekends per year.
  • Travels two to three times per year for meetups and conferences as needed.

Required Skills and Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience managing a technical team (experience managing small and mid-size teams preferred)
  • Strong track record of proactive work breakdown, strategic resource allocation, and stakeholder communication
  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (AWS preferred; other cloud platforms or strong VMWare/virtualization background acceptable)
  • Understanding of RDBMS concepts and database infrastructure management at a high level
  • Strategic thinking skills with ability to contribute ideas and architectural solutions
  • Demonstrated people skills in coaching, developing, and supporting others
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently in a high-autonomy, high-transparency environment, balancing hands-on technical work with team management responsibilities
  • Direct, honest communication style that fosters trust and psychological safety

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with large-scale migration projects (cloud migrations, database upgrades, platform transitions)
  • Familiarity with infrastructure modernization initiatives and platform evolution projects
  • Hands-on cloud infrastructure experience (AWS preferred)
  • Experience with multi-region cloud architecture
  • Experience working within a PMO or structured project delivery environment
  • Background in networking, security compliance, or backup/disaster recovery
  • Understanding of infrastructure-as-code, automation, and DevOps practices and tools
  • Experience managing work through Jira or similar project management tools
  • Ability to work in AWS and execute tasks when needed alongside the team
  • AWS certifications or other relevant cloud infrastructure certifications
